Avis Budget Group, Inc. was recently recognized by AARP as one of the "best workplaces" for people over 50, for its commitment to recruiting, hiring and retaining older workers. The company shares the 2009 Best Employers for Workers Over 50 spotlight with other honorees including: Cornell University, S.C. Johnson & Son, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Jersey, Michelin North America and Intel Corporation.

“Avis Budget Group has demonstrated exemplary practices with regard to recruitment, retention and promotion of older workers, in addition to creating and fostering a workplace that is supportive of the contributions older workers offer to the business community,” said AARP Chief Executive Officer Addison Barry Rand. “We commend Avis Budget Group for creating an age-diverse workplace and proudly add them to the list of this year’s honorees.”

Avis Budget Group has long been an attractive choice for workers over 50. Currently, nearly half of its workforce (47 percent) falls into that group.

AARP cited the company’s efforts to meet the needs of older workers. Avis Budget Group regularly invites all employees to complete a workplace satisfaction survey and uses senior placement agencies to identify and hire workers over 50.

“As the population ages, it is important to provide opportunities in the workplace for older, experienced and dedicated people,” said Ronald L. Nelson, Avis Budget Group chairman and CEO. “Being recognized by AARP for our commitment is an honor we are proud to accept.”
