Australian Car Rental Site Put to the Test
The site, named Vroom Vroom Vroom, has a price matching guarantee and deal for $10 back, but when tested, wasn't always the best option.
A new Web site, Vroom Vroom Vroom, allows users to reserve vehicles with rental car companies such as Hertz and Avis in more than 2,000 locations across the country, according to the Los Angeles Times.
The site claims to be an environmentally-friendly service, offsetting carbon emissions for every rental at no price to the renter. It has also promises a matched price plus $10 “for your efforts” if you can beat their price elsewhere.
A Wired writer tested the site’s guarantee, finding that rental for the same car for three days in Boston would cost the same, $133, whether booked at Vroom Vroom Vroom, specific rental companies or other sites. The writer came to a positive conclusion, but later stated that the design of the site could be improved further to save money for travelers who did not know well the area where they were going.
A writer for the Los Angeles Times did the same, finding that the search for the same vehicle, location and dates yielded the same result of $167.12 from the site as well as Enterpise and CarRentals.com. “So, in this instance anyway, it doesn’t matter, money-wise, which I go through,” the writer stated.
A response to the article looked further at the fine print, which states that only offers that can be verified by the Internet and open to everyone would qualify for the guarantee. Anyone able to receive a discount from a motor club or other organization for a lower price would not qualify for price matching or the $10 rebate. In this case, Vroom Vroom Vroom would not provide the lowest price.
