Paris-based Bollore Group will begin to roll out 500 electric vehicles as part of its new car-share program in Indianapolis over the next 18 months, according to an article by IndyStar.com.
Entitled BlueIndy, the initiative is the largest U.S. test of plug-in car sharing, says the report. This $35-million program includes a plan to open 200 sites around Indianapolis where the vehicles can be picked up, dropped off and charged.
The city of Indianapolis and Indianapolis Power & Light Co. entered into a partnership with Bollore Group to provide access to street spaces and install 1,000 charging stations, according to the report.
This December, an initial 25 charging stations will open with 50 cars. The remaining 175 sites are expected to open by the end of 2015, Dimitri Hochard, a senior Bollore electrical engineer, told the Indy Star.
BlueIndy is based on Bollore’s Bluecar program in Paris. This car-sharing program started in late 2011.
