Budget Costa Rica announced in a statement that it will close half of its locations temporarily due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

The company is following a regulation enacted by the Costa Rican government that authorizes employers to reduce work hours and wages to allow the company to maintain its entire staff during the crisis, who will mostly stay at home.

“Tourism will not be the same after this emergency,” the statement reads. “Its recovery will be slow, and we will analyze it day by day; thus, we will make decisions to help everyone get ahead.”

In an email exchange with Auto Rental News, Paulo Vargas Jiménez, general manager, said the business hopes to reopen fully in June.

Also during this time, the company is donating the use of 40 chauffeured vehicles for two weeks to the Costa Rican mail service and Ministry of Health to deliver medicine.

“[This] action would benefit a population of approximately 5,000 elderly who are the most vulnerable and at-risk population of our country,” the statement reads.
