After using safety camera technology in a pilot program, Brisbane Airport’s Europcar saw a 70% reduction in complaints and disagreements about vehicle damage and saw the average number of calls — regarding damage complaints — decrease by 30%.
The camera technology takes photos of cars before rental and after they are returned. The cameras timestamp and photograph the vehicles from every angle, creating a detailed history of the vehicle, according to Europcar.
First used in the U.S., the vehicle inspection cameras are a first for the Australian car rental industry.
“Europcar wants to be the most trusted brand in the vehicle rental market, and we are continuing to look at new initiatives that we can introduce to positively impact our customers’ experience,” said Matt Barker, Europcar’s commercial director. “The insights gained from the Brisbane pilot program reinforce how we can utilize and rely on new technologies to improve the customer experience.”
The next stage will be to install the fixed camera solutions in other Europcar locations. The camera technology will be introduced at the Melbourne and Adelaide airport locations in July — with other locations to follow, according to the company.
