The CarSharing Association (CSA) has released a draft liability insurance guideline for round-trip car-sharing operators in the United States. This guideline has been developed to protect consumers of car-sharing services and strengthen the industry’s reputation for providing a safe and practical alternative to private car ownership.
The CSA recommends car-sharing organizations provide liability insurance coverage with a minimum of $300,000 per incident for their member-drivers. According to CSA, many member organizations exceed this standard and insure their drivers for $1 million per incident. In order to know how much coverage is available, car-sharing operators should publish the limits of their liability insurance on their website.
