A renter of ReachNow crashed one of its BMW carsharing vehicles into a power pole in Seattle, leaving hundreds of residents without power for hours, according to a report by KOMO News.
Police suspect the driver of driving under the influence, says the report.
Carsharing programs have a screening process that tries to prevent alcohol-related accidents. BMW’s ReachNow mandates that drivers not have any alcohol or drug-related incidents within the past seven years, according to the report.
ReachNow also doesn’t allow those who have more than two car-related accidents or violations to use its carsharing service.
ReachNow told KOMO News that this driver will have his membership suspended, pending an investigation.
