Colorado is working on legislation that would increase car registration fees an average of $100 and add an extra $6-a-day fee to car rental or hotel room bills, to help raise $500 million for road and bridge repairs, according to the Denver Post.

The annual Colorado vehicle registration fee, including county taxes, now averages $142, according to the state Department of Revenue. A car's age, size and weight help determine the fee.

The Denver Post reports the additional $500 million a year is the minimum needed to maintain the state's deteriorating road system and that $1.5 billion per year in new money would be required to fix roads and bridges.
