While a customer was driving the Budget rental vehicle in New Jersey, she was cited for driving a vehicle with outdated registration. Budget then had to send a representative to the courthouse to have the ticket switched out of the renters name.

A Budget Rent A Car customer, Erda Gallermo, was cited for driving a vehicle with expired registration while the Chicago resident was traveling in New Jersey, according to the Chicago Tribune.

After returning to Budget and given a replacement vehicle, the rental car company reimbursed Gallermo for her $30 cab fare and that day's worth of charges. She was advised once she returned home from her trip that she must plead guilty to and pay for the ticket — a fee of $54 and permanent record of misconduct in the Manchester Township. Or, she could plead not guilty and go to court on July 13.

Gallermo then turned to Budget in an email asking for the company to help her mitigate the case. According to the article, a Budget representative spoke with the issuing officer and said that because the ticket has Gallermo’s name on it, the courts will not accept anything from Budget, and if she were to plead guilty, it would go on her record.

The Chicago Tribune followed up with Avis Budget and the company sent a spokesperson to the court to have the Manchester Township switch out the renters name from the ticket.
