Enterprise Rent-A-Car and the Enterprise Holdings Foundation donated 130 pounds to plant meadow flowers, bulbs, and perennials at seven roundabouts across the U.K.

This project of transforming roundabouts with urban meadows celebrates Enterprise Rent-A-Car’s 20 years in the U.K., according to the company.

Enterprise worked with Professor Nigel Dunnett of the Landscape Department at the University of Sheffield to design each roundabout location. The roundabouts were then planted by Pictorial Meadows, a company in the commercial development of seed mixes and turfs.

The flowering technologies developed by Nigel Dunnett and Pictorial Meadows have been shown to reduce maintenance costs for local authorities, as well as lower the disruption to traffic required when gardening equipment is taken on-site at roundabouts and roadside locations, according to Enterprise.

“We have more than 420 branches in towns, cities, and airports across the U.K., as well as hundreds of Enterprise Car Club bays across 19 UK cities,” said Khaled Shahbo, managing director of Enterprise Rent-A-Car in U.K. & Ireland. “Communities are really important to us, and we are so grateful for the way they have welcomed and supported us over the past 20 years. So when we commemorate occasions like a company anniversary, we take the opportunity to say thank you to some of the communities where we operate and to celebrate in a way that benefits the neighborhoods where we’re located.”

“The planting on these roundabouts will have longevity,” said Dunnett. “They will flower year after year with quite minimal attention, because Enterprise and the local authorities involved were willing to engage in this project for the long term.”
