Commercial fleet sales from nine manufacturers totaled 53,628 in June 2020, representing a 26% decrease when compared to the same time last year, though the declines are not as significant as seen in the last two months, which were both more than 65% drops.
Total fleet sales for the month — which is comprised of commercial, rental, and government sales — came in at 85,104, which represented a significant 69.3%% drop from the same time last year. Commercial car sales were down 20% year-over-year during June at 5,210 units, and the truck and SUV segment was also down, with vehicle sales down 26.7% at 48,418 units, according to Automotive Fleet data. While this continued a streak of declines for both segments, these drops were also not as significant as the prior month.
The rental fleet segment has continued to be impacted severely by the COVID-19 pandemic; continuing major declines that were seen across the board in June.
Through June 2020, rental fleet car sales fell by a drastic 97% totaling 2,237 units. Truck and SUV segment sales decreased 92.5% at 7,722 units. Combined, rental fleet sales totaled 9,959, which represented a 94.5% year-over-year decline. Declines in each segment increased over the previous month in May.
The government fleet sector also continued declines, though not as significant as May. There were 2,885 cars sold to government fleets, representing a 32.6% decrease, and truck and SUV sales were at 18,632 units, a 10% decline. Combined, truck, SUV, and car vehicle sales for government fleets amounted to 21,517 units, which reflected a 13.9% decrease from last year.
