FlightCar, a peer-to-peer carsharing service operating at airports, has launched its new mobile app.

Now customers can access all the features of the carsharing service right from their smartphone. Using a smartphone, travelers can list or rent cars, view scheduled trips and more with the mobile app, according to the company.

The app connects with users immediately upon arrival at the airport — coordinating details on party size, luggage needs, specific terminal location and airlines.

Once the traveler is ready, he or she can request a pickup through the app and track the location of the driver — similar to Uber, says the company. Travelers can even provide the driver with their general physical description (such as color of jacket) via the app, so it's easier to find them.

“Today, we’re launching our mobile app to dramatically improve our pickup experience and provide a level of transparency that doesn’t exist in the airport car rental space today,” said Rujul Zaparde, FlightCar’s co-founder and CEO. “We’re improving the overall experience of getting to and from the airport, on top of giving our members more control over and insight into their listings and rentals.”

Additionally, the app has a “Car Status” feature. While away, vehicle owners can track the live status of their vehicles. Is the vehicle parked at FlightCar? Is it on rental? The app will share the most recent recorded mileage and current status, and it’ll even confirm that your vehicle is washed, vacuumed and ready to go when you’re on your way back, according to the company.

Currently operating at airports in San Francisco, San Jose, Los Angeles, Boston, Seattle, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Dallas, Austin, San Diego, Portland, Oakland, Baltimore and Denver, FlightCar provides its customers with free airport parking as well as the chance to earn extra cash by renting out their unused cars to other approved members.

FlightCar pays car owners when their car is rented, based on the mileage the car is driven, says the company.
