Robert L. Stone, a former chairman and chief executive at the Hertz corporation, died from heart failure Jan. 28, according to the Associated Press. He was 87.

Born on Dec. 12, 1921, Stone became a top executive for Hertz in 1972. Under his leadership, the company’s revenue increased from $21 million in 1972 to $200 million by 1978, the year he left the company.

Additionally, Stone was responsible for hiring O.J. Simpson as the spokesman for Hertz, during the former NFL player’s heyday.

Stone is survived by is wife, four children and two stepchildren.
