Former Rental Car Manager Faces Felony Charges
A Pennsylvania man accused of pocketing rental fees of a Chevrolet Malibu is now charged with its theft.
A former rental car agency manager accused in March of repeatedly renting out a Chevrolet Malibu but keeping the fees now faces criminal charges for allegedly stealing the car as well, reported the Erie Times-News of Pennsylvania.
Scott W. Parkhurst, of Meadville, Penn., was arraigned on Tuesday on felony counts of criminal conspiracy to commit burglary, criminal conspiracy to commit criminal trespass and theft by unlawful taking.
Parkhurst was also charged with receiving stolen property, false reports to law enforcement and criminal conspiracy to commit criminal mischief for his alleged role in an early March burglary at Lumpp Rent-A-Car.
Vernon Township police accused Parkhurst of assisting in the break-in of Lumpp Rent-A-Car between March 7 and March 9. A lockbox containing $2,175 in cash and the Chevrolet Malibu were stolen from the business.
The car was later found abandoned in Erie, police said.
Investigation of the break-in unearthed information that led police to charge Parkhurst with improperly renting out the Malibu three times in January and keeping the $250 rental fees, according to the criminal complaint police filed against him.
Parkhurst was arraigned March 24 on 16 charges, including multiple counts of theft by unlawful taking and theft by failure to make required disposition of funds.
According to the Erie Times-News, Parkhurst was placed in the Crawford County Correctional Facility on $50,000 bond after his arraignment on the new charges Tuesday. His preliminary hearing on the initial charges has been continued, court officials said.
