Group Launches Ads Against Car Rental Tax Increase
A push to increase car rental tax in Wisconsin is now being publicly criticized by the Wisconsin Club for Growth who recently launched a radio commercial against the tax boost.
The Southeast Wisconsin Regional Transit Authority's proposal to increase the local car rental tax is now publicly being criticized by the Wisconsin Club for Growth, the Business Journal of Milwaukee reports.
Commercial advertisements against the tax boost are airing on Milwaukee news-talk stations WTMJ-AM (620) and WISN-AM (1130).
The Regional Transit Authority, a board created in 2003 by the Legislature to recommend regional funding for commuter rail and transit, is seeking legislation to enable a $13 increase in the local vehicle rental fee. That would provide the local contribution to buying rail cars, building stations and running the Kenosha Racine Milwaukee (KRM) commuter rail service, according to the Business Journal.
The Wisconsin Club for Growth reportedly criticizes both the proposed rental car fee increase and the fact that funds collected so far through a 2 percent rental car tax have gone primarily to lobbyists and public relations.
