Hertz Global has received the 2016 Best Practice Award for large business from Sustainable Florida, an organization that promotes a better social, environmental, and economic future.
Hertz was recognized for the company’s accomplishments and leadership in sustainable development.
According to Hertz, its commitment to sustainability includes:
• Nearly 80% of the company’s vehicles have a minimum fuel-efficiency rating of 28 highway miles per gallon.
• Environmental efficiency programs’ efforts resulted in recycling over 2 million gallons of used oil and auto waste in 2015, and approximately 80% of the company’s car washes use reclaimed water.
• The Hertz Global Living Journey corporate responsibility program also includes mixed recycling at Hertz rental locations, as well as tire recycling, which resulted in nearly 300,000 tires diverted from landfills in 2015.
• The company currently has three LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified locations throughout the U.S. The most recent LEED silver certification was the Hertz Dulles Customer Service Building, at Dulles International Airport, in Washington D.C.
Located in Estero, Fla., Hertz Global’s world headquarters received LEED Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.
Sustainable Florida annually honors businesses, government, and nonprofit organizations whose work is committed to the future success of Florida.
Best Practice Award nominations are reviewed by a panel of sustainability experts from government agencies and corporations, including previous year winners. Judges evaluate three pillars — economic, environmental, and social —and focus on projects that are environmentally friendly, provide a strong business model, and help create a better community.
