The Hertz Corp. announced Oct. 1 the expansion of its car sharing program, Hertz On Demand, in the Washington D.C. metro area with the addition of 70 new parking spots, including spaces in Virginia and Maryland. Hertz On Demand first started operating in the city in February.

Hertz On Demand vehicles in Maryland are now available by the University of Maryland at College Park and in Montgomery County in Bethesda (Bethesda Metro), Silver Spring (Silver Spring Metro) and North Bethesda.

In Virginia, vehicles are available in Arlington at Marymount University and in Alexandria at the Duke Street Metro.

“This expansion of Hertz On Demand makes car sharing even more convenient and accessible to residents, visitors and workers in the greater Washington D.C. metro area,” said Mark P. Frissora, chairman and CEO of Hertz.

Hertz On Demand is a pay-as-you-go system without an annual fee. Members have access to vehicles throughout the cities at any time of the day. Members can choose to rent a vehicle by the hour, day or month. Gas, insurance and 180 miles are included in the rates.

Hertz reported in the announcement that the car sharing program now has about 150,000 members.
