The Hawaii Department of Transportation Airports Division has announced traffic signal modifications impacting car rental returns at Honolulu’s Daniel K. Inouye International Airport, according to a report by Khon2.

The modified route is part of the improvement project to build a new consolidated rental car facility at the airport, says the report.

Advantage, Avis, Budget, Hertz, and National customers returning rental cars to the interim rental car facility will enter the airport property and remain on the arrivals or ground level, according to the report. The previous rental car entrance will be unusable during construction.

Once finished, the five-story car rental facility will house the companies in one location and will have around 4,400 parking stalls, says the report. The facility will also feature a quick-turn-around area with fuel stations and car washes, ready and return rental car spaces, and customer service counters.

Construction started in November 2016 and is expected to be finished in December 2020. The $330-million project is funded by a customer facility charge — a daily charge of $4.50 for cars rented from the airport, according to the report.
