The Long Beach Airport is starting a pilot program to allow ride hailing companies to pick up passengers at the airport, according to a report by the Long Beach Press-Telegram.

The pilot program will last for six months to help gauge how to create a policy that works for ride-hailing companies as well as taxi and limousine companies.

At a public hearing, the cab and limo companies said the pilot program, which allows ride hailing at the airport, would create “an uneven playing field,” according to the report.

The pilot program is planned to launch on April 1. If the pilot program is approved, there would be $3 pick-up and drop-off fees as well as increased permit and application fees for the ride-hailing companies, says the report.
