The Los Angeles Times reported Uber and Lyft may be allowed to operate at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). According to the article, Los Angeles city officials have created a draft proposal to make it legal for the ride-sharing services to offer rides at the airport.
The article stated Mayor Eric Garcetti also assured travelers they would be able to use the services by summer in his recent State of the City speech.
Some politicians are opposed to the plan as it will negatively impact the taxi industry, according to the LA Times. The article reported there is a $20 price difference between the ride-share companies and taxi fares. To be fair, the draft agreement proposes a $4 fee for each passenger who is dropped off or picked up using a ride-hailing service.
LA Times said the Board of Airport Commissioners will need to approve the plan, and then each ride-sharing company will need to sign a licensing agreement with the airport.
