The Michigan Attorney General's (AG) Office is investigating consumer complaints raised against Executive Car Rental, mainly stemming from issues with credit card charges.

Many customers filed complaints with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) about their rental deposits. The AG's office said these deposits, which average around $250, were slow to be refunded upon return of the vehicle. Other times, it is alleged Executive never returned the deposits.

The BBB also received complaints about prices for rentals advertised on travel websites. After booking, customers were allegedly hit with more fees in person that were not advertised on the site. Other allegations include discrepancies in rental contracts, late fee charges despite vehicles being returned on time, and "inappropriate" charges for damages.

In a letter to Executive Car Rental, Michigain's Office of Attorney General said that it believes the rental agency is "engaging in a pattern of unfair trade practice."

According to the Detroit Free Press, there were more than 400 complaints made in 2018.

In a statement to Auto Rental News through his lawyer, Executive Car Rental President Mark Waad acknowledged the allegations.

"We are well aware of the concerns expressed by the Michigan Attorney General's Office and provided an immediate response," he said. "We look forward to working together with their office to promptly resolve any consumer issues and provide our customers with the service they deserve."
