Pam Nicholson, Enterprise Rent-A-Car executive vice president and chief operating officer, has recently been named to the FORTUNE’s 50 Most Powerful Women in Business 2007 list for the first time, the car rental company reports.

Nicholson is the only woman on the list from a Missouri-based company. She grew up in St. Louis and began her career with Enterprise in 1981 as a management trainee at one of the company’s rental offices in St. Louis, shortly after graduating from the University of Missouri with a Bachelor of Arts degree.

At the time, Enterprise was a small but growing regional rental car company with approximately 10,000 vehicles in service. Today, Enterprise is the largest rental car company in North America with more than 900,000 rental and fleet management vehicles in addition to the Car Sales and Commercial Truck Rental business divisions.

Indra Nooyi, Chairman and CEO, PepsiCo, took the No. 1 spot on the magazine’s tenth annual list of the 50 Most Powerful Women in Business for the second year in a row. With 13 newcomers, FORTUNE’s list boasts new heights of achievement—the credentials of these women are the strongest yet.

FORTUNE ranked these women at for-profit companies based on the size, importance, and health of their business in the global economy; career momentum; and social and cultural influence. The complete list and accompanying stories appear in the Oct. 15 issue of FORTUNE and are available online at Fortune.com/mostpowerful.
