The Nissan Leaf will be available for short-term rental through auto rental company Europcar in Paris and London, according to a press release.

Guillaume Cartier, vice president for sales operations at Nissan International SA, said Nissan joined forces with Europcar because the car’s absence of emissions makes it “a perfect car for the inner city.” Cartier said it also gives drivers who are unsure about whether to purchase an electric vehicle an opportunity to evaluate whether it would be a good fit for them.

The Nissan Leaf’s range of 175 km is more than 90% of what Europeans drive each day, according to the release.

Europcar will recharge the cars without charging customers for the electricity used to recharge the cars after each rental period. If successful, the pilot program could expand to other cities in France and England and to other countries in Europe.

“Europcar has long believed in EVs as a sustainable means of mobility and is committed to enabling early adoption of this type of vehicles,” said Rafael Girona, COO of Europcar. “We are proud to partner with Nissan to facilitate expansion of EVs and provide our customers with the greenest possible mobility solutions.”
