Off-airport Operators in Las Vegas Must Pay Shuttle Bus Fee

After complaints that off-airport operators were being unfairly subsidized for using the shuttle bus as their revenues grow, the Clark County Aviation Director ruled that off-airport operators must also pay the shuttle bus fee.

According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Fox Rent A Car and other off-airport rental car companies will have to start paying for shuttle bus use between the Las Vegas McCarran International Airport and its rental car center after complaints from on-airport rental car operators.

Avis and Enterprise claimed that because of growing revenues of off-airport operators, these companies were being unfairly subsidized because they were not required to pay the shuttle bus fee that on-airport companies must pay. Fox had been picking up its customers in its own shuttle bus at the rental car center.

Clark County Aviation Director Randall Walker told the Journal that complaints didn’t surface until Fox began to take a larger presence in total rental car revenues. In 2009, Walker said, Fox made up 2.6% of total rental car revenue, but in the first quarter of 2012, that percentage increased to 6.1%.
