ORLANDO, Fla. -- Several airlines, including United's Ted, Southwest and US Airways, are adding flights to and from Orlando International Airport (MCO).
"As passenger traffic rebounds with double-digit increases -- 16% in the first quarter of this year -- we are very pleased that several airlines plan to expand service to this market," said C.W. Jennings, executive director for the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority.
US Airways began service between MCO and Bermuda this past weekend. Ted, United Airlines' low-cost carrier, just started offering 21 flights weekly between Orlando and Washington's Dulles International Airport. Later this month, Ted will increase the frequency to 35 flights weekly.
Virgin Atlantic just increased service between MCO and London's Gatwick International Airport to 17 flights weekly.
This past weekend, Southwest Airlines also started service to and from Philadelphia, with 21 flights weekly.
MCO is the car rental industry's leading airport market. From July 2002 through June June 2003, for example, MCO generated more than $441 million in rental car revenue.
