Panel to Discuss Recall Bill at Car Rental Show

How will the new recall bill directly impact your rental car operation? With the passage of the federal highway bill in December, the Raechel and Jacqueline Houck Safe Rental Car Act is set to become law, requiring most car rental companies to ground vehicles under open safety recalls.

At the 2016 International Car Rental Show, a panel of experts on automotive recalls will present the seminar “The Recall Bill is Law — What Now?”

The panel includes Brad Kjar, director of operations for U-Save Car & Truck Rental; Michael DeLorenzo, executive vice president of International Franchise Systems, owners of the NextCar, Priceless, and Rent-A-Wreck brands; and Ross Macdonald, chief marketing officer of AutoAp Inc., a recall notification service. Leslie Pujo, attorney and owner of LaPlaca Pujo, will moderate the seminar.

The panel will define the recall law and its exemptions, give insights in the scope and type of recalls in today’s environment, and share best practices on compliance and solving operational and customer service challenges.

“It’s time to come together as an industry to establish best practices to comply with the law, and to make sure we’re at the table with NHTSA to give our input on how to fix the broken recall system,” says DeLorenzo.

“This seminar will be the first forum for the industry to examine this new regulation that will affect all car rental operators,” says Chris Brown, executive editor of Auto Rental News. “Understanding and complying with the law will be an ongoing process, but our discussions will be an important starting point.”

The 2016 International Car Rental Show will be held April 17-19 at Bally’s Las Vegas. Click here to view the full schedule.
