A new “people-mover” called a SkyTrain at Georgia’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, will replace rental car shuttles, transporting customers from the airport to a new 67.5-acre rental car center.

The SkyTrain will replace rental car shuttles and is separate from the people-mover that takes passengers from the terminal to concourses, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

An airport spokesman said the center and train, scheduled to open in November, will ease congestion by taking dozens of buses off the road. And an Atlanta City Council transportation committee chairperson that oversees the airport is happy with the potential revenue to the city from vehicle renters in Atlanta use hotels, restaurants, and shops.

The rental car center is aimed at meeting demand forecast to grow nearly 65 percent by 2015, although the market has dropped due to the recession. About 2 million passengers rent cars at Hartsfield-Jackson annually.

The rental car center will have two four-story parking decks and house rental car companies’ customer service, administrative offices, fueling and maintenance operations. It will take the place of rental car agency counters in the terminal and rental car lots around the airport.
