TORONTO -- After a burning Air France jet crashed to the ground at Pearson International Airport in Toronto, Guy Ledez, an airport car rental manager, ran to the wreckage to pull passengers from the plane, according to the Associated Press.

The airport had issued a "red alert" due to inclement weather, and the plane is thought to have been struck by lightning.

After helping the passengers get away from the plane, the 37-year-old Ledez then went on board to make sure no one was left behind. All 309 passengers and crew on board the plan survived.

As Ledez exited the plane an explosion occurred that eventually tore the aircraft apart, the report said.

Ledez and another bystander had run to the plane to help, but the second man did not want his name made public.

Investigators confirmed the series of events through interviews with the second man and photos from Ledez's cell phone.
