The Nevada state assembly and senate overrode the governor’s veto of a senate bill that called for the increase.
Rental car customers in the state will pay the extra charge starting July 1.
Gov. Jim Gibbons vetoed Senate Bill 234 because of the extra charge for rental car customers. A spokesman for the state’s rental car agencies said it will amount to an increase of about $1.25 a day.
Car rental agencies now collect a 10-percent tax but send 6 percent to the state. The state is now taking the full 10 percent. But it is permitting the leasing agencies to charge more to offset their costs. Senate Bill 234 requires the leasing agencies to clearly disclose the amount of additional charges to the customer.
The Senate overrode the veto of the governor by a 21-0 vote. So SB234 now becomes law.

LOR overall continues to trend downward, but ongoing market and economic conditions could affect future results while the industry deals with staffing and productivity challenges.
