Sixt launched a new service that speeds up the rental booking process for customers by allowing them to receive the keys to their rental after scanning a barcode at the time of pick-up.
Since May 23, barcode rentals have been available at more than 70 Sixt Rent a Car locations, the company reports.
By booking using the barcode option on the Sixt website or the smartphone apps, customers can save their information including their name, license number and payment method, and they will then receive a barcode through email confirmation or directly on their phone.
At the time of pick up, customers need to place the barcode on a scanner and present their license to receive the keys.
In addition, Sixt also introduced a new technique for counter management — shortening the time spent queuing so travelers can pick up vehicles without wasting time.
“For our customers, this ground-breaking barcode vehicle rental service represents real added value because it again makes the entire rental process even quicker,” said Sixt AG Chief Sales Officer Thorsten Haeser. “Through the service, Sixt is yet again living up to its reputation as a driver of innovations in car rental.”

The Germany-based rental company introduced barcode technology into the rental process in order to decrease over-the-counter interaction when customers pick up keys to their vehicle.
