Enterprise Holdings has been named as a top veteran-friendly company by U.S. Veterans Magazine — in recognition of its continued commitment to hiring men and women who have served in America’s armed forces.

In fact, the company is named after the aircraft carrier that Company Founder Jack Taylor was stationed on during World War II — the USS Enterprise, the most decorated warship in U.S. military history.

During the most recent fiscal year, more than 1,600 military veterans and reservists launched new careers with Enterprise Holdings, which owns and operates the Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Alamo Rent A Car and National Car Rental brands and serves over 50 U.S. military bases. According to Enterprise, veterans make up almost 10 percent of the company’s total U.S. workforce.

“We believe there’s no better way to thank our veterans and reservists than to give them new opportunities to lead and serve,” said Pam Nicholson, president and CEO of Enterprise Holdings. “Their leadership abilities transpire into the workplace and allow them to consistently provide superior customer service every day.”

According to Enterprise, it pays the salary differential for employees on active duty, so they continue to receive full pay throughout the duration of their service. In 2013, the company expects to add up to 2,000 military employees.

U.S. Veterans Magazine polled hundreds of Fortune 1000 companies for its evaluations, compiling its list for Top Veteran-Friendly Companies from market research, independent research, diversity conference participation and survey responses.
