Automaker Volkswagen and ride-hailing firm Didi Chuxing are in talks to partner for a joint mobility venture in China, Reuters reports.
As part of the deal, Volkswagen would manage about 100,000 vehicles in Didi Chuxing’s ride-hailing fleet. Roughly two-thirds of those vehicles will be Volkswagen cars.
The German automaker will also buy cars with Didi to help the Chinese company expand its fleet. Both companies reportedly plan to work together to design and develop “dedicated vehicles,” with the production and use of autonomous vehicles as their ultimate goal.
According to The Wall Street Journal, the joint venture could be formally announced as early as next week.
