Thirty-six percent of U.S. adults have used a ride-hailing service app like Uber or Lyft, up from 15% in 2015, a new poll by Pew Research found.

While 36% reported having used a ride-hailing service, 61% said they had heard of ride-hailing, but never used it; only 3% said they had never heard of ride-hailing. Pew's 2015 survey found that only 15% of Americans had used a ride-hailing service, while 51% had heard of ride-hailing, but never used it; thirty-three percent had not heard of ride-hailing.

The survey, conducted from Sept. 24 to Oct. 7 of last year, found that ride-hailing usage has increased among American adults across all demographics. From 2015 to 2018, ride hailing usage among 18- to 29-year-old Americans increased 23%; Thirty to 49 year olds increased usage by 24%.
