$1 Million of Cocaine Left Behind in Rented Minivan
Authorities arrest two drug traffickers who used rented minivans to transport cocaine.
Rental agency employees at Thrifty Car Rental in Lawrence, Mass., discovered 21 kilograms of cocaine in a Chrysler minivan on Sept. 12, The Eagle-Tribune reports.
The cocaine was left behind by Angel Ayala Roque, 44, and Nicole Paquette, 30, both of whom were arrested and charged with trafficking cocaine over 100 grams and conspiracy to violate drug laws. Bail has been set at $1 million and $30,000, respectively.
A mother of four, Paquette was captured by authorities at the car rental agency after an officer posing as an employee called her to pick up some boxes she had left behind. Authorities then arrested Roque, an ex-convict, at his Methuen home, where they found an additional 30 kilograms of cocaine and $123,000 in cash. The combined street value of the cocaine exceeded $3 million.
Authorities believe the drug operation went beyond the immediate area and may have been regional in scope, according to The Eagle-Tribune.
