SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. --- Last month, Sandy Springs, Ga., a newly incorporated city-suburb of Atlanta implemented a 3% excise tax on all car rentals of less than 31 days.

When Sandy Springs fell was governed by Fulton County – before the incorporation – the tax didn’t exist, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. Now that Sandy Springs is a municipality, it is looking to fill its general fund, without raising rates such as the property tax and sales tax, officials told the newspaper.

The neighboring communities of Roswell and Alpharetta, on the other hand, avoided pushing such a tax because it’s more trouble than the revenue would ultimately be worth.
