Car Rental Manager Allegedly Stole $300,000 in Customer Payments
From May 2009 to October 2011, a New Zealand car rental company manager may have been stealing cash payments and directing electronic payments to her personal bank account.
A company manager of car rental company Omega Rental Cars of Auckland in New Zealand is being charged with theft of $300,000 after allegedly pocketing cash from customers and tampering with the company’s electronic funds transfer machine so that customer payments were directed to her personal bank accounts, according to TVNZ.com.
Simon Sceats, the owner of Omega Rental Cars — which has 10 branches throughout New Zealand, told TVNZ that the employee, Carol Joan Harford, 60, has since been fired, and that the company is dealing with a significant dent in turnover. Sceats said the employee was in a position of trust.
Harford faces 35 charges of alleged thefts between May 2009 and October 2011, and has a hearing date set for May 28.
