Dublin’s City Council Promotes Car-Sharing Program
Dublin car-sharing customers can rent GoCar vehicles by the hour with no parking fees.
According to an Irish Times report, Dublin now has a developed car-sharing program that’s backed by new city regulations. Prior to last week, GoCar had been running a small car-sharing system in Dublin and Cork.
With Dublin City Council providing 30,000 pay-and-display parking spaces with no parking fees to drivers, GoCar vehicles can be rented by the hour at locations such as Arran Quay, Barrow Street or Clontarf, says The Irish Times.
A city council spokesman told The Irish Times that other car-sharing operators can apply for licenses to run on-street car clubs.
“Dublin City Council wants car clubs operating from on-street parking spaces because we believe they will play an important role in improving traffic management in the city,” Dublin Mayor Oisin Quinn told The Irish Times.
To sign up as a GoCar member, it is a one-time fee of 50 euros to join and then a monthly fee of 5 euros.
