Expected to open in March 2016, El Paso International Airport’s new $46-million car rental facility will begin construction this week, according to a report by the El Paso Times.

The new facility will be constructed on the vacant car-rental parking on the west side of the terminal, says the report. During construction, car rental parking will be moved to the airport’s short-term parking area.

According to the report, the new facility will house the airport’s nine car rental companies and include a three-story parking garage for car rental pickups and returns, car maintenance and car cleaning.

By consolidating all the car rental companies in one covered area, it will “allow customers to get in and out of the airport faster and get their cars under cover,” Scott Goldstein, director of airport planning for Enterprise Holdings, told the El Paso Times. Currently, the car rental companies are spread across the airport.

Started in February 2012, a $3.50 fee on each car rental purchase will help pay for the project, Monica Lombrana, airport director of aviation, said at the groundbreaking ceremony last week.
