Many Americans are preparing to hit the open road this Independence Day weekend, according to advance reservation numbers for weekend car rentals at Enterprise Rent-A-Car's neighborhood locations.  Compared to last year, Enterprise has seen a 20 percent jump in reservations at its more than 5,500 non-airport locations, which can be found within 15 miles of 90 percent of the U.S. population.

"We are seeing more holiday weekend travelers choosing to drive rental vehicles to their Independence Day destinations this year," said Steve Short, vice president of leisure business development for Enterprise Rent-A-Car.  "Families opt to travel in rental cars for a variety of reasons, including the enjoyment of a roomier vehicle model for comfort, the savings on travel costs with a more fuel-efficient vehicle and the avoidance of additional wear and tear on their personal vehicles."

Short added, "The convenience of renting a vehicle from your neighborhood Enterprise Rent-A-Car is also attractive to travelers.  We make it easy by driving to your home and picking up the entire family and luggage at no extra cost."
