CityzenCar, a peer-to-peer car-sharing social network based in France, has launched a text messaging (SMS) communication solution to simplify car sharing for its users, according to a Feb. 8 press release.

The solution was announced by Netsize, a Gemalto company, which provides digital security options allowing SMS communication to support the entire reservation process. The SMS model is compatible with all wireless networks. 

Through this system, car owners will be notified of reservation requests via SMS. If they approve, the driver will receive a message back containing details of the car and location.

The car owner can then choose to either deliver the keys to the driver in person or authorize CityzenCar to unlock the car doors. This unlocking system is made possible through an embedded telematics device that sits within the car called “CitzenBox.”

It is also exceptionally interoperable, providing us with a far wider end-user reach.”
