Getaround Founder Named as a Next-Generation Female Entrepreneur
In the 25 and under category, Jessica Scorpio, founder of peer-to-peer car sharing company Getaround, was one of eight women named by Fortune Magazine for 2011.
Fortune Magazine says “eight women are setting the stage for the next wave of entrepreneurial ventures” for 2011, and Getaround co-founder Jessica Scorpio was designated as one of them.
Getaround is a peer-to-peer car sharing company that Scorpio and two classmates started while attending Singularity University, a tech grad school in the Silicon Valley. She was one of 40 to be accepted into the school the year she applied.
The car sharing company, which allows users to gain revenue by sharing their own vehicles, raised $3.4 million in seed funding as of September. In May, the company reported it had about 1,500 renters in California and an additional 1,500 nationwide.
Scorpio told Fortune that Getaround has plans to go international.
