Kahului Airport to Build Consolidated Rental Car Facility
In response to the expected growth of the car rental industry by 2025 at the airport, the Hawaii Department of Transportation proposed building a three-level structure for all seven rental car agencies to operate under.
The Maui News reported March 9 the Hawaii Department of Transportation proposed building a consolidated rental car facility (conrac) at the Kahului Airport in response to the expected growth in the car rental industry by 2025.
The new structure would allow all seven car rental agencies at the airport to operate in three-level structure. The building will mainly be used for rental car pickup and return and car-prepping activities.
The proposed facility would include 4,200 stalls for rental car use to meet the projected demand of nearly 2,200 stalls needed for rental cars by 2025, according to a draft environmental report.
