TO ALL INTERESTED PARTIES:
This letter is being sent to local car rental operators in the LAX area, to invite you to an industry meeting being held on Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2009, to discuss future plans for rental car opportunities at Los Angeles International Airport.
As you may know, the current concession Agreements with the 10 on-airport rental car companies will expire in less than one year. Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) is now beginning the process of developing new arrangements with rental car operators, which will replace these existing contracts in 2010.
The purpose of this industry meeting will be to gather input from on and off-airport operators to a range of possible contracting approaches and potential new business terms. It is our goal to develop a new contracting process which serves the needs of the travelling public, as well as rental car operators – both large and small. We will be looking at all aspects of current policies and practices, and hope to come up with recommendations for our Board of Airport Commissioners which reflect the needs of the industry and your customers.
On a long-term basis, we have begun the process of planning and designing a Consolidated Rental Car Facility which would house all operators in a single facility. While it is not expected that this facility will go into service during the term of these new concession contracts, becoming an LAX rental car concessionaire will be one way to have a strong voice in the planning and design of this facility.
I hope to see you on Feb. 17, since this will be a unique opportunity to participate in a process which will hopefully result in your gaining greater access to airport customers. The meeting will held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the LAWA Soundproofing Office Conference Room, 8939 S. Sepulveda Boulevard, Suite 100, Westchester CA 90045. Please do not hesitate to call me at (310) 646-3987 if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Mark Miodovski
Acting Concessions Manager
LAWA Concession Services Division
