A new law in North Carolina will require car rental companies to disclose information about their registration, title and inspection fees to customers, laying out the information like the breakdown on a telephone bill, according to The Fayetteville Observer.

The breakdown will also show airport fees, taxes and other costs. Some 47 other states allow fee disclosures. Hertz lobbied for the bill.

This law also prohibits car rental companies from collecting more than the actual registration cost. Hertz says it will under collect the registration fee.

The bill passed both the House and Senate simultaneously and awaits the Governor’s signature.
