Rental Car Companies Face Difficulty in Enforcing Customers to Pay Tickets
An investigation by 41 Action News revealed that three car rental companies are some of the top offenders in unpaid parking tickets in Kansas City.
According to an investigation by 41 Action News in Kansas City, Mo., Hertz, Avis Budget Group and Enterprise Rent-A-Car owe thousands of dollars in parking tickets, though court officials said Hertz paid more than $10,000 for 247 unpaid tickets to settle its fines on June 7 following the investigation.
Avis-Budget had 149 tickets valued at more than $6,700 and Enterprise had 90 tickets totaling more than $4,000.
Car rental companies are able to transfer liability of the ticket to the customer, but companies say it is difficult to do so — making it seem as though the companies get a “free pass,” according to Municipal Court Administrator John Franklin.
