Rental Car Recall Bill Passed by Senate Commerce Committee
The Raechel and Jacqueline Houck Safe Rental Car Act (S. 921), which was reintroduced in the Senate in May, was passed by the Senate Commerce Committee yesterday.
The Raechel and Jacqueline Houck Safe Rental Car Act (S. 921) was passed by the Senate Commerce Committee yesterday.
Reintroduced in the Senate in May by four senators (Sens. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y.; Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska; Barbara Boxer, D-Calif.; and Claire McCaskill, D-Mo.), the bill would prohibit the rental of unrepaired vehicles.
“ACRA is pleased that S. 921 has passed the committee, and we thank the members for their work thus far,” said Sharon Faulkner, executive director of the American Car Rental Association (ACRA). “While there is still much work to do before this becomes law, this was a critical step in the process."
“… the Commerce Committee paid tribute to two of my California constituents who lost their lives in a senseless tragedy by passing the Raechel and Jacqueline Houck Safe Rental Car Act,” said Sen. Boxer. “This bill will protect our families by keeping vehicles under safety recall off our roads, and I will be working hard to ensure its passage by the full Senate.”
