Silvercar Raises $11.5 Million, Set to Start Airport Service in 2012
Silvercar says it will launch by the end of this year to provide airport renters with the option to book and unlock 2013 Audi A4s from their smartphones.
According to Silvercar, theAustin, Texas-based company will launch by the end of this year after raising $11.5 million in series A financing to offer an alternative to traditional airport car rental, the company said in an Oct. 10 press release. The round was led by Austin Ventures, with participation from CrunchFund, SV Angel, Chris Dixon and Dave Morin.
Silvercar’s fleet will consist of silver 2013 Audi A4s. It’s unclear as to where the company’s first location is planned, and the company said that it will announce these details at a later date.
The company developed an app that will allow users to book a car in advance and manage their vehicle settings through their personal profiles. Users will be able to unlock their Audis by scanning the vehicle with their smartphones.
