AUSTIN, Texas – In a setback for Dallas area rental operators, the Texas Senate on April 3 overwhelmingly passed a bill that would raise Dallas County car rental tax limits to 6% in order to help finance a new stadium for the Dallas Cowboys. The bill is now before the House.
Team officials have told local media that they hope to bring the issue before voters as early as this November. The stadium’s price tag, originally estimated at $500 million, has climbed to $650 million in the team’s most recent projections. A sports authority, authorized by the county, would administer the tax. Stadium plans call for an open end zone design and a retractable roof.
