After seven years, Bristol Airport Limited (BAL) is moving forward with plans for a major airport expansion that includes a consolidated car rental facility, The Bristol Post reports.
BAL received permission from the North Somerset Council in 2011 for the development, but later had to revise its facility plans due to an “increase in demand.”
Revised plans for the facility include: an increase in the size of the reception building, reduced total car parking spaces, 12 car valet bays, five car wash bays, six car maintenance bays, and a single store welfare facility.
There are also plans for a valet area for returned vehicles, and a bus shuttle service to take passengers to and from the main terminal building.
The development, located south of the runway near the silver zone parking area, would allow the airport to accommodate more than 10 million passengers per year.
BAL is currently awaiting an environmental impact assessment before it submits a formal planning application to North Somerset Council.
