Carsharing Company Provides Free Rides in Ad-Sponsored Vehicles
With advertisements on the carsharing vehicles, WaiveCar rides are free since the cars act as mobile billboards. Waive's launch sponsor is Oscar Health Insurance Corp.

WaiveCar, the carsharing program that runs on advertising dollars, has launched in Santa Monica and Venice Beach.
"WaiveCar rides are free because the cars work as mobile billboards,” said Isaac Deutsch, CEO of WaiveCar. “You're paying us just by driving the cars. Our motto is: We waive the fee; you drive for free. All you need is a smartphone, a clean driver's license and a credit card."
WaiveCar's fleet of compact cars is 100% electric and 100% emission-free. Each car has an 80-mile range per charge, according to the company.
Using WaiveCar's mobile app, drivers can find a car near them, book it and start driving. WaiveCar will unlock the door remotely and the keys are inside, says the company. Once driving time is up, a map will show where the driver can drop off the car.
The 20-car fleet will be dispersed throughout Santa Monica and Venice Beach, near popular areas such as the Santa Monica Pier and Muscle Beach, according to the company.
"This presents a unique marketing channel for advertisers,” says Deutsch. “Dynamic ads driven around town are guaranteed to be seen.”
On each WaiveCar, sponsor messages are displayed on the body of the car and via a digital display mounted on the roof. WaiveCar’s launch sponsor is Oscar Health Insurance Corp., a Google-backed startup.
"WaiveCar's advertising technology allows advertisers to not only show ads on a particular day or time, but also in specific GPS-defined areas," said Zoli Honig, chief technology officer. "This is a new, innovative advertising medium for companies and a powerful way of fostering green, renewable energy in our communities."
WaiveCar plans to expand to 200 cars throughout Los Angeles in the coming months.
